Name: Lars Hofstee
Country/ Code Name: Lars “Netherlands” Hofstee
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Affiliation: Pirate
----If not Civilian: The Flying Dutchman
Ship Position: Captain
Likes:
- The Flying Dutchman. Netherlands is very proud of his ship and will do a lot to keep it in good shape.
- Beer. Alcohol isn’t an unknown substance for this guy. He enjoys getting wasted every once in a while just as much as the next pirate.
- Cigarettes/his pipe. Captain Netherlands smokes and can’t get through the day without his beloved nicotine.
- Coffee. Just like with his cigarettes, this is one of the captain’s daily needs. His day will rarely start without a good cup of coffee.
- Giving out orders. It’s so much better than being the one receiving them.
- Things that remind him of home. Even though he has broken his ties with his family, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t miss it.
- Netherlands has a weak spot for cute things, like rabbits and young women. He has a rabbit on the ship, which he keeps in his quarters which he named Eka.
Dislikes:
- Being ordered around or disobeyed. Netherlands likes to be in charge. Failure to follow his rules is not looked kindly upon.
- Disrespect. Lars is a very proud individual. If you touch his dignity you will have to face the consequences.
- Losing someone close to him. Due to Lars’ rocky relationship with his family, he has become afraid to lose the people he loves.
- Thieves. He is very protective of everything he owns.
- Spending a lot of money. Ever heard of “going Dutch”?
- The military. He’s a pirate, what do you expect?
Job Skills:
Netherlands is quite the strategist, and is pretty good at planning things. When he still served under a captain himself, he was the Master Gunner, so he knows a lot about guns and the like and also has some navigating skills from his time in the military. Smuggling is this guy’s specialty, and he has lots of contacts on the black market. If he gets his hands on something that can be sold, it doesn’t take him long to get rid of it for a nice price. Overall he has an air of authority, which is also required for his job.
Personality and short background:
One look at the guy will already tell you that Netherlands is not someone you want to mess with. Being tall, muscular and straight-faced, he often comes across as rather intimidating. He is very direct in both words and actions to the point people might consider him as rude.
You wouldn’t say it at first, but once you get to know him, he’s a good guy. There aren’t many that get close to him though, due to his somewhat distant attitude. Most people aren’t willing to make the effort to push past his uncaring exterior, but those who manage to get a place in this guy’s heart, have a good friend.
If you show him respect, he will respect you in return. This is the way he leads his crew. Though it may appear differently due to his harsh attitude, he is very loyal towards his crew and won’t just abandon anybody. He will do everything in his power to retrieve a captured crew member.
Even though he is a good man at heart and does have morals, he is still a pirate and can and will be cruel to get the things he wants.
He wasn’t raised this way though. Lars grew up in a well respected family. He was good cared for and his parents had great plans for his future. He would be educated by the best tutors they could afford and join the military, work his way up and eventually claim an important function. He was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps, who is an important military general. Lars went along with this, being used to nothing else.
Though once he joined the military, Lars’ vision on life changed drastically. His whole life he had been doing what people told him to, and for what? The more often he was faced with pirates, the ones they were fighting, the more he knew that was what he wanted too. Being free to do what he wanted. Not his parents, not the military. So Lars abandoned the military and his previous life and set out to become a pirate.
Netherlands joined a pirate ship and served under it’s captain. Though he was still being ordered around, he felt that he had made the right choice. This life suited him better than the military. He worked hard and eventually worked himself up to be the Master Gunner of the ship, making him responsible for the ship’s guns and ammunition.
Lars enjoyed this life, but even as he was working, laughing and fighting with the rest of the crew, he still wanted something more. He respected his captain, but also longed to be in his position. So after some time, Netherlands decided that he didn’t want to do this anymore. He left the ship and started a crew of his own.
Now he has become a pirate captain of his own, on his pride and joy; The Flying Dutchman.
Other
- One of the things Lars feels guilty about the most about running away from home and the military, is leaving his sister behind. They used to be pretty close, but due to Lars going away from home, and not contacting them anymore, their relationship has become damaged. Sometimes Lars thinks of going back home to see her, but he never actually does so.
- His blue and white striped scarf is one of the few things that Lars still has from his old home. It is very precious to him and he takes care of it well.
RP sample:
Netherlands walked through the streets of Londinium. Smoke drifted up into the air as he took a drag of his much needed smoke. Having a woman on the ship was always a lot of work. Specially if said woman was one’s little sister. They would be demanding things (such as letting her go), and it didn’t take long before Lars had found himself in need of a break. They hadn’t seen each other in a long time, and were both stubborn as always. There weren’t a lot of moments they would agree on something, and small fights were sure to happen. In short, they weren’t exactly as close as siblings should be. But still, Lars would be damned if he let her go back to Spain. The girl may have claimed he hadn’t laid a finger on her, but how would he know whether that was true or not? For all he knew she was trying to cover for the bastard.
He had left Angeline back on The Flying Dutchman with the rest of the crew to look after her. That meaning, making sure that she wouldn’t escape. Because he expected her to try. Picking her up from the streets to take her to his ship hadn’t exactly gone as smoothly as he had expected. She had struggled and refused to come with him. Though soon she would see it was all for the best. Belgium wouldn’t be in any danger of getting hurt by Spain, and Netherlands would have another crew member. All would be well as soon as she accepted that faith.
Netherlands shook his head while he let out a heavy sigh. He had come here to take a breather, not to think about everything that had happened over and over again. This was his time. Just a man and his smoke. When he got back to his ship he would deal with Angeline again. Not now.
Somewhere far in the distance some police sirens could be heard. Netherlands raised an eyebrow. That couldn’t be good. The military wasn’t fond of pirates, that wasn’t a secret, so Lars couldn’t help but suspect it had something to do with that at first. Other than his own, Spain’s ship would have to be docked here right now, since he had been able to find Belgium. Though his own ship wasn’t looking any different from a normal merchant ship right now, and he doubted Spain would be so stupid not to change the flag and sails before docking. Even though he hated the guy, he would give him that much credit. So most likely this was something different this time.
Though just to be sure, Lars moved away from the main road and into the back streets and alleyways. It wasn’t long until he heard running footsteps. Though he caught them just a little to late. As he turned around to look at who was approaching, said person dashed out of an alleyway and crashed into him. The force with which the other hit him wasn’t strong enough to knock him off his feet, though it did make him stumble back a little. The tall Dutchman looked down on a very guilty looking blond. Though listening to the many sirens in the distance and seeing the guy in front of him, something didn’t quite seem to fit. He didn’t really look like someone who would commit a terrible crime (specially not with that stuffed animal under his arm), so why were the authorities after him?
(( This is just taken from one of my threads here. I hope that’s okay? ))
